Can the palace close on other days?

Yes. State ceremonies and official events can close all or part of the palace. On 12 October 2026, for example, it stayed closed for a royal reception. If your day depends on the palace, keep a second plan: the Almudena Cathedral and the Plaza de Oriente are next door.

When is the last entry?

The last entry is one hour before closing. Do not leave the visit for the last minutes: the palace is big, and you will want more than an hour.

Is there a free entry?

Citizens and residents of the EU, and Ibero-American citizens, can enter free with an ID from Monday to Thursday in the last two hours of the day: 16:00 to 18:00 between October and March, and 17:00 to 19:00 between April and September. It is a free visit without a guide, you cannot book it in advance, and the Royal Kitchen is not open in that slot.

What can I bring inside?

Leave large backpacks and suitcases behind: because of works in the palace, it is better not to bring big bags or parcels. Everything goes through a scanner, and anything of 40 x 40 cm or more must be left in the cloakroom. You can take photos for your own use without flash, except in the areas where it is forbidden. Tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed.
